From May 28 to 31, the city of Nalchik hosted a strategic session of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS). The event was attended by representatives of more than 40 regional branches of the RGS from the Central Federal District, the North Caucasus and other regions of Russia. This meeting became an important stage in the preparation for the XVII Congress of the RGS and provided an opportunity to define new guidelines for the scientific, educational and project activities of the organization.

From Moscow University named after S. Yu. Witte, Vice-Rector for Research Pavel Nikolaevich Kravchenko, who is a member of the Council of the Tver Regional Branch of the RGS, took part in the session.

Key topics for discussion at the session:

development of the regional network and educational initiatives;

updating the statutory documents of the society;

launch of priority projects for 2025;

integration of the Russian geographical community into the international agenda.

Pavel Nikolaevich Kravchenko emphasized the importance of geographical science in the modern world: “Today, geography is not only a science about space, but also an important tool for understanding and solving global challenges, such as climate change, resource and humanitarian problems. For universities focused on sustainable development and ESG principles, interaction with the Russian Geographical Society is strategically important. This is the point of synchronization of science, education and practical initiatives.”

Witte Moscow University actively cooperates with the Russian Geographical Society, implementing joint projects in the field of environmental education, geoinformation analysis, territorial planning and nature research. Such partnership opens up new prospects for student initiatives, interdisciplinary research and youth involvement in achieving sustainable development goals.

On the eve of Geographer's Day (August 18), the university is preparing a series of events aimed at forming an environmental culture and popularizing geographical knowledge among students.
