Youth and Science for a Green Economy: Samara Hosts Final of Interregional Hackathon on Russia's Sustainable Future

On May 29, 2025, the final stage of the interregional student hackathon "Ecological Sovereignty and Low-Carbon Future of Russia" was held at the Boiling Point site of the Samara State Technical University (SamSTU).
The event brought together talented student teams from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Tver, Tambov, Samara and Tolyatti. Participants worked on finding innovative solutions in the field of sustainable development, energy transition and environmental safety.
The organizers and partners of the hackathon were:
— The Sustainable Development Consortium at the Moscow University named after S.Yu. Witte,
— Samara branch of PJSC T Plus,
— Zhigulevsky State Nature Biosphere Reserve named after I.I. Sprygin,
— Samarskaya Luka National Park,
— Center for Regional Environmental Education RCE Samara.
The finalists presented their original projects within the framework of two key tracks:
"Low-carbon development and energy-saving technologies"
"Environmental sovereignty of the Russian economy"
The jury highly appreciated the level of development of ideas, the interdisciplinary approach of the teams and the clearly expressed project motivation. The presented solutions touched upon the issues of decarbonization, energy efficiency, waste recycling and business environmental responsibility tools.
The winners and prize winners were awarded diplomas and memorable prizes from the hackathon partners.
The hackathon became an important point of attraction for young researchers seeking to contribute to the construction of a sustainable, environmentally responsible future for the country. It once again confirmed that young people are ready to generate not only ideas, but also real scenarios for transforming the economy based on the principles of environmental justice and technological sovereignty.
