100 Years of Nature Protection: The Centennial Anniversary of the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation

On November 30, 2024, the International Forum "Ecology of the Future" took place at the Lomonosov Moscow Innovation Cluster to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation (VOOP). The event brought together over 3,000 participants, including representatives from business, government, academia, students, schoolchildren, and volunteers. The forum served as a platform to address critical environmental challenges and shape policy directions in nature conservation and sustainable resource management.

Key Highlights of the Forum:

  • Agreement Signing: VOOP officially joined the "Sustainable Development" consortium, paving the way for collaborative ecological projects.

  • Session "Nature Without Borders": Led by Yu.S. Sukhorukova and Chen Guixin, participants discussed international environmental cooperation. V.M. Zakharov, Chairman of the Central Commission of the All-Russian School Ecology Olympiad, proposed the creation of an International Ecology Olympiad.

  • Session "Water and Humanity" and Roundtable "Forest Potential": Under the guidance of V.I. Danilov-Danilyan, discussions focused on the challenges and opportunities of utilizing water and forest resources for sustainable development.

  • Youth Environmental Intellectual Club: Operating under the slogan "VOOP: 100 Years Back – 100 Years Forward," young activists launched the "Youth Perspective" initiative, which was presented to VOOP Chairman V.A. Fetisov.

More than 40 Russian companies, universities, and organizations showcased projects addressing sustainable development.

The Student Scientific Society of Moscow Witte University made a strong impression at the forum. Students Lyubov Rastorgueva and Gavharoy Rezhabboeva attended key sessions, contributed to discussions, and proposed initiatives highly appreciated by experts and included in the consortium's future plans.

Rector Alexander Vyacheslavovich Semenov highlighted the importance of student involvement in such events, fostering environmentally conscious generations. Pro-Rector for Research Pavel Nikolaevich Kravchenko emphasized the university's role in integrating into the international environmental community.

The forum not only celebrated VOOP's centennial but also set new milestones for ecological policy, underscoring the importance of international collaboration and youth engagement in addressing global environmental challenges.
